Oliver Väärtnõu Becomes Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
On September 15, the board of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECCI) elected Oliver Väärtnõu, previously vice-chairman and a long-time board member, as the new chairman of the board. The previous chairman, Toomas Luman, had led the Chamber since 1995.
Oliver Väärtnõu has been elected to the board of the Chamber three times and has served as one of the two vice-chairmen since 2023. He is also the CEO of Cybernetica AS and a member of the Prime Minister’s Council for Efficiency and Economic Growth. Previously, Väärtnõu also served as Strategy Director at the Government Office.
Toomas Luman stepped down at his own strong request after leading the Chamber for 30 years. He began his role on September 15, 1995. During his tenure, he chaired 299 board meetings and represented Estonian entrepreneurs countless times both at home and abroad.
Under Luman’s leadership, the Chamber contributed significantly to Estonia’s accession to the European Union, the adoption of the euro, and the development of key legislation forming the backbone of the Estonian business environment, including the establishment of a simple tax system and corporate income tax structure.
According to the Chamber’s bylaws, Oliver Väärtnõu will serve as chairman of the board until the next regular general meeting and board elections in 2027. Väino Kaldoja will continue as one of the vice-chairmen, while Margus Rink has been elected as the second vice-chairman. As of today, the board of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry consists of 13 members.
