Save the date: Economics seminar "Baltic Tiger" on the 18th October 2024
Please mark in your agenda the seminar “Baltic Tiger” that will be held at the Embassy of Latvia on the 18th October 2024 (9-30 –13-00, the networking lunch will follow). Its objective is to dwell upon the competitiveness of the Baltic economies by enhancing cooperation in high-value added sectors, such as wood chemistry, as well as discuss scenarios for further politico-economic integration of the Baltic States in the perspective of 2040.
The seminar is organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Latvia, the Chamber of Commerce of Estonia (ECCI), the Embassy of Latvia in Estonia in cooperation with TalTech and Riga Technical University. It is intended to be as a continuation of the seminar held at the Embassy in November 2023. Last year it was concluded that there was high potential of joining the forces of the Baltics in such high value-added sectors as hydrogen, wood, wind, biomedicine and bioengineering, as well as cancer research.
This year’s seminar will discuss what has been achieved in the science-industry cooperation in the above domains, with a special focus on wood chemistry.
The seminar will also expand into the foresight domain presenting the scenarios elaborated by the newly founded Latvian think-tank “LASER” on the perspectives of the Baltic cooperation in 2040. Harmonised tax system, common foreign investment agency, AirBaltic owned by the three Baltic States, integration of the energy markets – those are just some of the characteristics of the “Baltic Tiger” scenario. The Baltics joining the Nordic Council of Ministers would be another one.
The seminar will conclude with a networking lunch. Its programme will be sent to you in due course.
